Less tape than expected

I expected this duck tape to be as long as the regular silver tape but it was about 1/4 the lenth I expected. I know its my fault – its very clear in the description that it is only 10 yards. The tape itself is great – I just felt it was a little pricey for the amount you get.

Pretty, but not good for Hula Hoops.

I got this tape in 3 different designs, and I have to admit they are all very pretty and fun. The pictures are representative and the tape have vivid colors.
After getting them throw amazon I discover that Home Depot and Target had them for cheaper price, so the first mistake was mine. If you are thinking in getting more than one I recommend you to check in this kind of places first before getting them here.
Sadly the tape is much harder than other duct tapes and it required some effort of my part to be able to use it. Because this tape is not as elastic as other duct tapes are, it was absolutely not good for decorating hula hoops. It took me a much bigger effort and the hula hoops end up with a lot of imperfections.
The designs are so fun and original that I may still use them for future hula hoops, but I am also curious to try dome other brands to see if the others are better for this kind of activity.

I purchased this item to use for “soldering” electrical connections where true soldering was prohibitive due to the heat associated with it. This product is basically 100% carbon powder suspended in a glue product. It must be stirred up very well before each use. It’s disappointing that the glue product is SO fluid; it flows like crazy and can make a heck of a mess if you’re not careful. It takes at least 24 hours for the glue to dry completely, but by golly it’s conductive!! For connections that are apt to be stressed due to movement, I advise finally sealing the connection with epoxy.

Haven’t found a better product for “heatless soldering” that is so versatile.

Better Than Nothing

It’s A Mixture of Graphite & Water Soluble Glue
Comes with lots of caveats so do some research.
..like it won’t work to fix any kind of wiring
attached to a windshield, antenna, defroster etc.

It isn’t tacky.. so either use a clamp, or be
prepared to hold the object (for a long time.)
It’s thin & watery..apply sparingly in layers.
…and even after it’s dried to the touch, it
won’t conduct electricity very well until it’s
sat for at least a few days to throughly dry.

It gets Brittle.. and will crack away under any
kind of stress or tugging.. so be prepared to
reinforce whatever you’re mending with either
tape of an additional application of epoxy.

Lastly… It’s NOT really Metallic.. IOW.. Not
as good at conducting electricity as you’d
probably hope it would be. It DOES conduct a
current but not as well as solder. I fixed a
flashlight, and you can see a BIG difference
between the mended flash & an identical unit.

Given the alternative (buying and/or using a
soldering unit) it’s BETTER THAN NOTHING.

Works as advertised

I’ve used it for soldering solar cell tabs on and soldering them together and it works great. It’s easy to be messy with it so you’ve got to be careful when applying it, but it’s also easy to clean off before it dries, so if you make a mess you can wipe and re-apply.

The one annoying this is that it takes about two or three minutes before the bond starts to really hold, so you either have to hold the wires in place or use some clips or something for those first few minutes. After that it seems to hold pretty well right away as long as you aren’t pulling at the wires or something. After giving it a day to dry it holds very strong.

Great Tape

Awesome Stuff, this is! Pay the extra money up front to have a big roll of this in your toolbox! Its bond is far greater than the foam-type of double sided mounting tape made by (3M also), plus its more pliable, doesn’t dry out, and it’s soft so it will fill in and adhere to minor dimples or coarse surfaces. You can also remove it by rolling it off a surface with your thumb. As for value, in drug and hardware stores, you’ll pay $3.00 or so for a short roll of the white foam product which will dry out over time. With this product, you get 37 feet for $20!

Ridiculously Strong

This tape is extremely strong. I bought it to replace the duct tape that was failing me. I’m holding up everything from posters to lights and surge protectors. It never takes more than half an inch of this double-sided tape to hold anything up. I have a surge protector mounted underneath my bed with multiple adapters hanging from it, and this tape shows no sign of giving in to gravity. I don’t know how easily the tape will come off yet, though I expect it would be pretty difficult given the strength. One special thing to note, this tape is CLEAN. Some tapes get really sticky and mucky, but this tape is smooth and clean all throughout application and reapplication. My experiences have been indoors, so no comment on how this holds up outdoors.

Works as Promised

I bought this tape to attach cat netting to stucco, rather than drill holes in the stucco. It went up in a matter of minutes, whereas drilling would have taken at least a few hours. It doesn’t look bad and is holding well after a few weeks. This is a great product for permanent mounting of light weight items outside on stucco or brick.

It’s not ofttimes the word revolutionary may be affiliated with duct tape, that old, sticky standby used in plumbing repairs, hockey stick augmentation, and homeland security protection. By getting the gray out–and avoiding the “sore thumb” look of typical duct tape repairs–3M’s Scotch Transparent Duct Tape may without doubt lay assert to a revolution of the toolbox. But seeing through it is just the start. This duct tape may be without apparent effort torn by hand, is UV resistant, and, through sped weathering tests, has been shown to last six times longer than it is old-school namesake.

Duct tape has been around since 1942 when the military necessitated a waterproof tape for sealing ammunition boxes. Originally colored green, it was referred to as “duck tape” due to it is moisture resistance as well as it is cotton duck construction–the same ribbed cloth applied in bandages. After the war, it was adopted by contractors working in the booming housing industry, where it got it is “duct” name for effortlessly connecting heating and air conditioning ducts.

History’s fine, but what may 3M’s new, clear duct tape do for us? Virtually anything. First, we noticed it is powerful stickiness–the roll itself adheres to just when it comes to any surface when laid on it is side. As advertised, the tape was without apparent effort torn from the roll by hand with minimal force. 3M also seems to have ironed out one of the greatest complaints with regards to duct tape: wrinkles. In our testing, we employed it repeatedly and evenly without the tape sticking to itself and without creating odd bumps and creases. And while the tape is rather sticky, it doesn’t go overboard, effortlessly lifting off surfaces when we necessitated it to and not leaving the tacky, viscous residue often times found with other duct tapes.

As for it is transparency, the tape blended well into just when it comes to any surface we used it to. It was never “invisible” but did have the chameleon-like quality of reflecting the surface beneath it and only calling attention to itself when caught in direct light. Also, we placed bands of the tape over our computer monitor before writing this review (don’t try this at home, kids). Peering through the fabric ribs was a nuisance, but we were competent to compose the description you’re now reading. How’s that for transparency?

Our only complaint is that, as with most transparent tapes, finding where to get started peeling the roll may be difficult. While this surely isn’t a showstopper, we did find a solution: mounting the roll onto a tape gun.

Tape, by it is nature, is not a terribly stimulating product (or topic). But 3M’s Scotch Transparent Duct Tape is veritably a tipping-point entrant, one that may someday become ubiquitous and banish gray duct tape to the nether reaches of our tool sheds, and memories. –Agen G.N. Schmitz

Let’s clear up how clear this really is

The adhesion is at least as good as Testa tape (decent quality duct tape). Finally, while not transparent it’s clear enough to read even very small text through it, as the accompanying video shows.

BTW, I feel that honest, effective reviews, accompanied by detailed videos, can take the place of first-hand experiences that are often lacking in online shopping. I’ve always appreciated the help I’ve received from other reviewers and try to return the favor as best as I can. I hope you found this review helpful and the video at least entertaining. One of the best things ever, made better

Everyone knows how useful a roll of duct tape is. But did you ever think how much more useful it would be if it didn’t look so lousy? (I wish I had! Doh!)

They’ve had different color duct tape for a while – the white was handy for a lot of things. But that doesn’t quite do it, and they don’t make every color, and I’m not going to buy every color!

But the clear tape is almost like having a roll of every color – since it (somewhat) blends into whatever you use it for. So go ahead and use it on your running shoes, your childrens’ books (to repair the spine or stick down the popups again), and so many other new uses.

I can’t vouch that it lasts as long outside as they claim it does (6x longer). And it is expensive – this is just 20 yards. So as mentioned, when you’re taping up ducts in the basement, you’re still probably going to want to use silver duct tape.

The Amazon description above is pretty accurate and useful, if you want more info. By the way, to find the end … just run your fingernail around the roll, you can feel the end. The tape is thick enough that works well enough.

For a few bucks, everyone should have a roll of this at home, you’ll find a hundred ways to use it. Maybe not on ducts. Or ducks. But you’ll use it.

Wouldn’t paint a room without it

Very good, easy to secure and remove. Truly an essential painting tool. I’ve never had it damage a surface I applied it to. Clean baseboards or other surfaces before you apply it, press down lightly, it helps prevent bleed through and comes off easily. Don’t try to use masking tape as a substitute, it will damage surfaces.
